1) The top of the crest represents a roof that protects those
within. It has a convex shape giving it strength.
2) Dragon is the scholar. He has physical, mental, and spiritual
strength. His right hand holds the master key that unlocks the
entire universe. On his left hand he holds the Kris to represent
that the KaliKenpo system evolves from two separate systems: Kali
and Kenpo. This is the Kali side. His body bares ten points of fire;
these represent the ten degrees in the art. The dragon has the
wisdom of experience and is placed above the tigers that look up to
it. The dragon has all the power of the tigers and stays in touch
with that power, as evidenced by the tiger’s tail touching the
dragon, but the dragon has the wisdom, restraint and control to use
that power only when necessary.
3) The eye is the Almighty God looking down at us to make sure we
are good people
4) The black and the two reds means that you have to master both
Kali and Kenpo in order to be a Black Belt in KaliKenpo
5) The triangle represents the Kali side of our art
6) The atom in the middle shows that the KaliKenpo system is always
on the verge of exploding. Also representing all the different
angels and paths in our system.
7) The sides of the crest represent the structural walls of the
system, like those of a Chinese house. They also represent the shape
of the blade on a Karambit and repel those forces trying to break
in.
8) The stripes on the tigers’ bodies also contain the initial of the
two strongest influences in KaliKenpo. EP represents Ed Parker and
RD represents Ray Dionaldo. Ed Parker is the founder of American
Kenpo. Ray Dionaldo is the founder of FCS, the Filipino Combat
System and brings the Kali into KaliKenpo
9) The tiger is a warrior. The tiger represents physical or earthly
powers. His colors are of beginners ranks. His tail has nine black
stripes to represent all the lower ranks: white, yellow, orange,
purple, blue, green, brown, brown, and brown. The black color of the
stripes represents the senior ranks to which the tiger aspires. The
tiger is strong, aggressive, and an unrestrained fighter, driven by
instinct, and never backs down from a challenge. The tiger
represents the beginning students. There are two tigers representing
that you need to start as a beginner in both Kali and Kenpo in order
to become a Dragon in the KaliKenpo system. The tigers are
positioned below the dragon since they look up to it. The tiger
reaches up to the dragon is able to just barely touch the master key
held in the dragon’s claws, but can not grasp it.
10) The flame is the eternal flame of Kenpo; both beautiful to
behold and deadly to touch. The three peaks represent the three
stages of learning.
11) The bottom of the crest represents an axe with a large visible
blade at the bottom and a second smaller blade above, touching the
flame and giving it internal strength and tremendous power.
